New Music Vid from Emily Haines of Metric

6 10 2007

Sometimes the music video is way cooler then the single it represents, and sometimes the single is way cooler then the video for it, but on a rare occasion, both compliment each other equally as proof in Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton’s new video for ‘Our Hell’ off their recently released album ’Knives Don’t Have Our Back’. The video, directed by Jaron Albertin, is shot in a film negative/x-ray-type style that is sure to keep you watching.

5 10 2007

In celebration of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Grammy Music Awards, My Night At The Grammys is ranking the top Grammy performances of all time, and they need your votes!

Pick from 50 past performances including Aretha, Christina Aguilera, Alanis, Madonna, and Tina Turner. Catch semi-vintage performances from the early 80’s of Barbra Streisand & Neil Diamond’s 1980 duet ‘You Don’t Bring Me Flowers’ and Herbie Hancock jamming on the keytar to ‘Rockit’ from 1984.

Remember, this is not the VMAs, this is the Grammys; the live performances include some of music’s most legendary musicians and singers. Go to www.mynightatthegrammys.com to vote. Wanna know our picks?

St. Vincent playing “These Days”

4 10 2007

And just when we thought we’d heard the best…after a little poking and prodding around YouTube, we found video footage of St.Vincent singing “These Days,” like the little rockHer she is, in a DUMBO session (assuming that’s in Brooklyn…isn’t it all These Days–see, we used it in a sentence!) Any-who, she’s awesome. Watch the clip. Sometimes words just aren’t enough :)

Freshly Squeezed Sound: St. Vincent

3 10 2007

Ya ever hear something that sounds so refreshing yet familiar at the same time? Familiar in a comfortable-nostalgic type of way? Familiar in a ’take me back to that day’ way? Even if you don’t, Now, Now by St. Vincent is one of the best first-time listens I’ve heard in a long long time , and when you listen to music for a living, it’s quite a nice break away from the predictable.

Long story short: St. Vincent’s debut album Marry Me is out now, featuring  single ‘Now, Now,’ and you can listen to tracks right on her website to see what we’re talking about. And we can now rest at last, I’ve finally heard the freshest new voice of 2007. We love you St. Vincent!

Raveonettes Moving On From Major Label

1 10 2007

After three albums released on Columbia, and much speculation, The Ravenonetts official announced (via MySpace) that they are moving on from the major label scene:

“…it’s time to move on. Being on a major label definitely had its advantages and a few downs, of course. They treated us extremely well, I really have no complaints but (we) feel it’s time to go in a slightly different direction. The major label system sometimes doesn’t allow for outside “help” to get involved, meaning that we don’t get to choose who we wanna work with. That can be a pretty terrible thing and bad things will surely come of it. Therefore we’ve decided to go with indie labels around the world and only get involved with people who truly care and people who feel we can take The Raveonettes to the next level.”

‘Lust Lust Lust’ is scheduled to release November 12th on UK-based indie label Fierce Panda, and the band promises “pretty spectacular” album artwork in “3d baby!”
