Raveonettes Moving On From Major Label

After three albums released on Columbia, and much speculation, The Ravenonetts official announced (via MySpace) that they are moving on from the major label scene:

“…it’s time to move on. Being on a major label definitely had its advantages and a few downs, of course. They treated us extremely well, I really have no complaints but (we) feel it’s time to go in a slightly different direction. The major label system sometimes doesn’t allow for outside “help” to get involved, meaning that we don’t get to choose who we wanna work with. That can be a pretty terrible thing and bad things will surely come of it. Therefore we’ve decided to go with indie labels around the world and only get involved with people who truly care and people who feel we can take The Raveonettes to the next level.”

‘Lust Lust Lust’ is scheduled to release November 12th on UK-based indie label Fierce Panda, and the band promises “pretty spectacular” album artwork in “3d baby!”

Maria Taylor Announces Fall Tour Dates

Ok, so she’s not exactly touring heavily around the US, but she is going up and down the West Coast (lucky…you get all the good shows). Extra Lucky: she’s probably playing songs off her second album released this year, Lynn Teeter Flower. Maria, if you see this, come back to the East Coast!

Folk-tastic singer/songwriter/musician Ani Difranco along with her label Righteous Babe Records releases Ani’s ultimate career music catalog with her greatest hits album Canon. Ani hand picked each song on the album, along with five new re-recorded tracks of old songs.  

Ani Bonus: Verses, Ani’s first pubished book of poetry in the US, will also be released today.

M.I.A. Kicked off Stage at 2007 Connect Festival

The summer festival season is nearing a close, but not without a GALANG after indie Sri Lankan hip-hopper M.I.A. got kicked off stage at Scottland’s 2007 Connect Festival this past weekend, and thanks to YouTube, we’ve got footage!

 

Here’s what we hear happend: M.I.A. invited an equally colorful and energetic festival crowd on stage to be her back-up dancers during her new single “Bird Flu” off her recently released album Kala, only to be kicked off stage mid-set by ____ (we’re still unsure of who, officially, pulled the plug).

“I didn’t walk off. I got chucked off,” says M.I.A. on her MySpace blog. “You were worth getting kicked off for.”

Yeah, we know, not exactly the type of stuff we talk about here at ROCKHER, but you gotta admit, there’s just something about Jennifer Lopez. Do we love her? Can you really hate her? Now that the Bennifer super-oiled PR train has jumped the tracks, maybe it’s time we give JLo another chance to redeem herself as the hot blooded latina, diva Bronx pop-princess. So when her new single “Do It Well” off her sorta/kinda anticipated sixth studio album BRAVE due out October 9th came to our attention, we just had to see what she sounded like. Aren’t you curious?

With their new album out, “Under The Blacklight”, that only means a new video. Money Maker, the first single from UTB, features Jenny in a whole new way: shaking her bare shoulders to the bass beat of Money Maker with three porn stars. Sounds odd, but it’s done tastefully and keeps you looking the whole time.

Cat Power Covers: Take 2

What could possibly be better then Chan ‘Cat Power’ Marshal’s 2000 Covers Record? How about a second one?! That’s right, we’re only 5 months away from Chan’s Covers Record 2! Or at least, that’s when the Shortlist Prize winning artist told us it’ll be out (via MySpace, of course).  *Bonus* With 24 covers to choose from, Chan’s thinking of making it a double volume set! So if you think about it, it’ll be like 3 total Cat Power cover albums. That’s a lot of Cat Power. I’m sure she’s thinking it over real hard while mixing the record AS I TYPE in Dallas, Texas with Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Loretta Lynn). Guess which awesome alternative band’s almost ready to start recording new music? Stellastarr*! We know, the headline is a dead giveaway…Any-who, the band announced they’re just about done writing – with 11 songs in the can- and are just a few months away from getting back in the studio. I smell a mid-2008 tour a-comin’… but ff you just can’t wait, see Stellastarr* perform their new song additions live Aug. 23 at the Highline Ballroom in NYC.
